This study aims to examine the relationship between perceived physical and media literacy levels among students of the Faculty of Sport Sciences at Ardahan University. A cross-sectional, correlational survey model was employed, which is one of the quantitative research methods. A total of 304 students (40.1% female; 59.9% male) participated in the study during the 2024–25 academic year.
Data were collected using the Perceived Physical Literacy Instrument (PPLI), which was adapted into Turkish by Yılmaz and Kabak (2021), and the Media Literacy Level Determination Scale (MLLDS), which was developed by Karaman and Karataş (2009). Descriptive statistics, the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, the Mann–Whitney U test, the Kruskal–Wallis H test and Spearman's rank correlation analysis were used to analyse the data.
According to the findings, licensed athletes had significantly higher physical literacy scores. When evaluated in terms of body mass index (BMI), Although some differences were observed, they were not statistically significant. individuals in the healthy weight category obtained higher scores in the 'Communication with Others' sub-dimension than those classified as underweight. Furthermore, a significant positive correlation was observed between physical and media literacy. These results suggest that both literacy domains are generally moderate. The strongest correlation was found between total scores on the Perceived Physical Literacy Instrument (PPLI) and the Media Literacy Level Determination Scale (MLLDS) (r = 0.480), suggesting that general literacy skills develop in parallel across both domains.
