19. Yüzyıl Sonu 20. Yüzyıl Başlarında Kırşehir Sancağı’nda Eğitim-Öğretim Faaliyetleri (Educational Activities in the Kırşehir District in the Late 19th Century and the Early 20th Century)

Abstract

Important developments took place in the Ottoman education system during the late 19th and early 20th centuries which corresponds to the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid II. In this period, the education structure was reorganized, the number of existing school types has been increased and new school types were opened. However, the most important development in the name of education in this period was the increase in the number of schooling activities in rural areas. Thus, it was aimed to increase the number of educated citizens by spreading education activities throughout the country which were limited to the central places. This article examines the educational activities of the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Kırşehir District of Ankara Province, one of the places where the new educational institutions were opened as a result of Sultan Abdülhamid II's policy of spreading educational activities to the rural areas. In this context, the existing educational institutions in the district, the lessons that were thought in these institutions, the administrators and teachers who were in charge and the students who were trained were tried to be presented, in accordance with the information obtained from the Ankara Province Yearbooks, Ministry of Education Yearbooks and archival documents.
