Abstract

Values education can be understood as the totality of efforts aimed at enabling individuals to live peacefully, happily, and healthily -both on their own and together with others- and at sustaining this state over time. Because its aims directly concern human beings, it has attracted attention across multiple disciplines. In recent years, studies from diverse fields have been linked to  values education, and the field’s perspective continue to broaden. In this study, a bibliometric analysis of the core components of research on values education was conducted. A dataset compiled from the WoS and Scopus databases was examined using R-Studio. Based on findings from 604 articles produced individually or collaboratively by 1,073 authors over a 53-year span (1970–2023), the analysis shows an upward trend in recent years and collaboration among several countries on this topic. In the relevant articles, keywords such as “education,” “artificial intelligence,” “human,” “values,” and “curriculum” frequently co-occur. Some conceptual uncertainties, together with differences in implementation and context, make it difficult to establish a common roadmap. Although thematic proximity is strong, methodological and theoretical diversity indicates that the field has not yet fully matured. Conducting comprehensive research with alternative search strategies and current data would be useful to track the development of the field.
